Sometimes a weekend away with the girls is just what the doctor ordered. It was my first official night away from my son- and was mainly looking forward to sleeping in ( which 9am is partially 1pm in mum-time). What could be better than a city break in London? My friend Ellice surprised me with tickets to Mamma Mia in the West End, so I didn’t really need much of an excuse anymore not to go away for a night.
There are plenty of fantastic things to do and places to see. It really is the perfect choice for a girls weekend away.
WHERE TO STAY IN LONDON FOR A GIRLY WEEKEND
Planning a busy weekend of sightseeing? Well, it is best to book a London hotel which is central. We choose to stay with Hilton Tower Bridge- which was kindly gifted to us to make staying in central London easier so we could plan our stay around the main attractions.
THINGS TO DO IN LONDON AT THE WEEKEND
There is so much to do. In fact, the possibilities are literally endless. This is why you should decide where you want to go and what you want to see before your weekend away in London. That way, you and the girls can decide the best plan of attack so that you fit everything in. Here are some ideas to get you started.
We chose to on Black Friday, which we did not know what to expect at first, however, we ended up on Bond Street to stop and shop in the four levels of lingerie and loungewear at Victoria Secret. Because we ended up on visiting the last weekend of November all the Christmas lights were decorated in Picadilly Circus and the department stores had their best holiday displays up in the window. If you do end up planning on going to London for shopping, Black Friday is probably one of the best times to store a discount…liked the one I had in Kate Spade, 20% off everything in the store along with an extra 30% on all handbags. Naturally, I decided on a sachel that only cost me £110 down from £220 which was a good deal considering I was looking at purchasing one for a while. My best tip, if you do decide to go would try to plan on going to the American branded shops as they normally participate in Black Friday, offering the best deals in comparison to there British counterparts offering a discount of 20% on Black Friday.
Don’t forget Covent Garden is the place to go if you are wanting a bit of variety. You will find everything from clothing and jewellery to crafts and antiques!
Be a stereotypical tourist
When you visit London for a weekend break there are certain things that you just have to experience. The landmarks and attractions that are iconic to the city. Take a ride on the London Eye, walk across Tower Bridge and admire Buckingham Palace. Don’t forget to take a stroll past Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and Trafalgar Square too.
Afternoon Tea or Dinner with FANTASTIC VIEWS
Don’t have the budget for a splash out fancy room? The Ting Lounge is one of my favourite spots in London for an afternoon tea or dinner that boast incredible views over central London. The Ting Lounge is located in The Shard, while you won’t be going to the very top of the building; the lounge offers great views for half the price.
Over-indulge with tasty sandwiches, cakes and pastries…and a glass of champagne of course if your in the mood for an afternoon tea or settle down with an Asian inspired light dinner while viewing the twinkling city lights at night from above.
See A Show In The West End
While there are many theatre packages available for purchase, if your a Broadway buff like myself seeing a West End musical is a must. With so many different shows to choose from, the West End is an incredible place to inspire you, make you wish that you continued theatre past High School…
Mamma Mia is a great feel-good, girls-trip musical to see. Moments of joy and laughter while the whole crowd sang along to the beloved songs. My favourite moment of the show is the sequence of ”Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)”, in which made me feel nostalgic of the many nights spent dancing the night away in clubs when younger. While this is an option to go out and do on a night out in London, I am too much of a granny at heart that rather go drink wine in the hotel room and watch the news at the end of the night out.
A trip to London a great idea, and each trip has the possibility of making each trip a little different each time…
